Intentionality

“All the believers were together and had everything in common.  Selling their possessions and goods, they gave to anyone as (they) had need.  Every day they continued to meet together in the temple courts.  They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people.  And the Lord added to their number daily those who were being saved.”

Creating a Common Life

Shared common life comes in many forms. We may live in the same household or in a similar geographic location or at distance from each other. No matter how near or far we are from each other, we can pray and eat together, encourage and support each other in times of joy and pain, and worship and utilize our gifts for the good of each other and the community around us.

As a church, we desire to establish a “parish” life (living in proximity to other members of the faith community) for worship, relationship and mission. We believe “nextness” is important to the embodiment of the way of life we are endeavoring to create together. We will seek to support neighborhood relationships in and among those involved in Abbey Way. Chapter Houses and common places of meeting will be the norm for establishing meaningful ways of creating “nextness” together as we listen for the ways God will lead us more into what shared life is to be for us at Abbey Way.

Something very sacred happens as we are willing to live more deeply with God and each other. Abbey Way is a place, a way of life, to help incarnate the Gospel in our lives and world.

Our Vision Statement

We will be a growing, self-sustaining new monastic church, living alongside our neighbors in a specific urban setting.

Pray with us as we endeavor to live into our vision in the next five years.
